When a customer gets their pizza, the first thing they notice is the box. If the size is right, the pizza looks better, fits properly, and arrives in good shape.
In this guide, we’ll walk through the most common pizza box sizes, materials, and styles—and help you choose the right size mix for your shop.
How Pizza Box Sizes Are Measured and Labeled
When pizza shops talk about a “10” or “12” pizza, they’re referring to the diameter of the pizza itself, measured in inches—the most common sizing standard in the US and other Western markets.
In parts of Europe, pizza sizes are sometimes labeled in centimeters instead. For reference, 1 inch equals 2.54 cm.
Pizza boxes are labeled differently. Box sizes are based on the length × width × height of the box, for example 12 × 12 × 2 inches or 30 × 30 × 5 cm.
Pizza Box Sizes for Small, Medium, and Large Pizzas
To keep things consistent, many North American foodservice suppliers group pizza box sizes into categories like personal, small, medium, large, extra large, and party (or jumbo).
- Personal: Typically used for 6–8 inch pizzas. Common for single servings, tasting portions at small shops, and kids’ meals.
- Small: Usually fits 8–10 inch pizz Good for one or two people sharing lightly, and often used for small takeout orders or add-on items.
- Medium: Most commonly 12 inches. Suitable for two to three people, and often the go-to, everyday size for many pizza shops.
- Large: Typically 14–16 inches. Designed for three to four people, and widely used for family takeout and group orders.
- Extra Large: Usually 16–18 inches. Best for four to six people, and commonly ordered for gatherings and group delivery.
- Party / Jumbo: 20 inches and above. Made for feeding a crowd, and mostly used for parties, events, and large orders.

Pizza Box Styles: Square, Round, Octagon, and Slice Boxes
Pizza boxes aren’t limited to the standard square design. To stand out visually—and to make a better first impression—many pizza shops also use more design-driven box styles.
- Square Pizza Boxes
This is the most common option on the market. Standard sizes usually match 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18-inch pizzas. Square boxes are popular because they’re easy to stack and efficient to mass-produce.
- Triangle Slice Boxes
Designed for single pizza slices, these boxes are typically around 9 × 7 × 2 inches. They’re widely used for walk-up windows, grab-and-go orders, and slice shops.
- Octagon Pizza Boxes
Often referred to in the industry as “octaboxes,” octagon boxes were used by Domino’s for a period of time. This style is more of a branding choice, offering a distinctive look that stands out visually.
- Round Pizza Boxes
Round boxes follow the shape of the pizza more closely. The base usually includes grease channels that lift the pizza slightly, helping reduce oil buildup and moisture. The lid often features locking tabs to better retain heat.
Pizza Hut has tested round pizza boxes, showing they can help pizzas arrive hotter and crispier during delivery.
Pizza Box Materials and Cost
- Kraft Corrugated Cardboard
Corrugated cardboard is made of a fluted layer sandwiched between two flat sheets. The structure is simple and widely used, making it the most common material for pizza boxes. It offers a strong cost-to-performance balance and works well for everyday use.
- White Paperboard
The surface is whiter and smoother, so it looks cleaner and gives you more accurate print colors. It’s a more premium, presentation-focused option.
- Molded Fiber Round Boxes
These round molded fiber boxes are made from natural plant-based materials. They’re not a standard option for most pizza shops, and are typically used by a small number of brands for eco-themed campaigns or limited-time promotions.
Pizza Box Size Combos Our Customers Buy the Most
For most pizza shop owners, the most common size combo we see in actual orders is 12-inch and 14-inch boxes. This pairing covers everyday demand well. If your shop regularly sells larger, family-size pizzas, adding a 16-inch box usually makes sense.
If you run a slice shop, walk-up window, or food truck, we typically recommend adding triangle slice boxes alongside your full-size pizza boxes. They make it easier for customers to grab a slice and go.
Many shop owners also choose to customize paper bags, cutlery, and sauce cups at the same time when ordering pizza boxes from us. That way, everything used for takeaway is matched in size and style—simpler to manage and easier to use day to day.
At PackJing, we work directly with factories and integrate the supply chain, so you get factory-level pricing with one team handling everything—from sampling to mass production.
